General Information for 2007

Meet the other ISI 2007 students! View the 2007 Participant List.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION:

ARRIVAL DAY. Our official arrival day is Monday, July 30. You must arrive on or before this day to participate in ISI. If you wish, an ISI representative will pick you up from the airport on July 30 and take you to campus.

EARLY ARRIVALS. Students who arrive on weekends may not be able to check in to Graduate Housing until Monday morning. If you must arrive earlier than July 30, you should apply for a temporary home-stay with a CCIS family (form enclosed) or make other arrangements for a place to stay. Also, please note that if you wish to check into Graduate Housing upon your arrival, you should schedule your flight so that you arrive as early as possible in the daytime.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION FORM. As soon your flight information is confirmed, complete the Arrival Information form in the admission packet and send it to ISI. Please fill out the form completely; we need all of the information on the form. ISI must receive your arrival information form by 17:00 on Friday, July 6, 2007 (Central Standard Time) at the latest. You may send it through the mail, fax the form to us, or e-mail it as an electronic attachment.

AT THE AIRPORT. Upon arrival, look for an ISI representative carrying a sign that says "ISI" in the baggage claim area (Terminals 1, 2, and 3) or at Exit A or B in International Terminal 5. You will be given a folder with an orientation schedule, maps to all ISI locations, and emergency contact numbers. These materials will give you all the information you will need until official programming begins. If our ISI volunteers pick you up at the airport, they will give you your folder as soon as you arrive. If a friend, a department representative, or CCIS host family picks you up instead, please give us contact information for that person on your Arrival information form. We will send your folder to them, so that you may still have it as soon as you arrive. If you are making your own arrangements or are coming early, please contact us so that we can arrange a time to greet you and give you your folder.

ORIENTATION TOURS and ASSESSMENT. Orientation tours are held on Tuesday, July 31, and testing is held on August 1. You must be present for both the orientation tour and the testing in order to participate in ISI. Additional information about the tour and the assessment will be included in your arrival folder.

The orientation is designed to help you quickly find all the necessary administrative offices and complete most of the paperwork necessary to begin life as a Northwestern graduate student. You'll also start getting to know some of the other ISI students and staff right away, and see some of Northwestern's beautiful campus. The assessment is a way for us to create a language profile of each student, so that we can customize your instruction to your needs. You do not need to study for the assessment, as we want to determine your needs at the time of the assessment.
